Our story

Tel-Aviv University is a proud member of CECAM (Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire).

The goals of our Node are:

  • Providing an international framework for workshops, summer schools, and tutorials throughout the state of Israel, and hopefully, whenever possible, in neighboring countries.

  • Putting scientific simulation in focus at TAU and in Israel.

  • Giving a reference point to computational scientists at TAU and in Israel.

  • Strengthening our relationships with these activities in Europe.

  • Exposing our students to international activities in this field.

  • Supplementing the already strong scientific ties of Israel and Europe (EU activities, CERN, bi-national programs).

About us:

Tel-Aviv University is a proud member of CECAM (Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire). Located in Lausanne, Switzerland, CECAM is a well established (since 1969) European organization devoted to the promotion of fundamental research on advanced computational methods and to their application to important problems in frontier areas of science and technology. CECAM’s fields of interest include computational chemistry, materials science, physics, and biology.

The main activities of CECAM are:

  • Organizing or sponsoring scientific meetings of varying scale and duration (seminars, discussion meetings, workshops, thematic and general conferences);

  • Organizing or sponsoring tutorials and schools aimed at the training of young scientists;

  • Organizing programs of short and longer term visits of scientists to the CECAM locations;

  • Contributing, through links with academics, to Master and Doctoral programs in Computational Materials Science;

  • Organizing or sponsoring special events promoting common research activities involving both EU and overseas researchers.

     In 2012 Tel-Aviv University (TAU) was approved as the first Israeli Node of CECAM.

Theory and simulation expertise at Tel Aviv University span a vast range of length scales, from the nanometer scale inherent for quantum chemistry, quantum Monte Carlo and density-functional theory, through the micro-scale regime characteristic of phase-field modeling of micro-structural evolution, fracture mechanics and the modeling of engineering components, to the geophysical scales important for environmental studies. Over 40 faculty members across a number of Faculties and Departments on campus including Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Environmental Studies, Life Science, and Medicine are active in these fields and perform computational studies in diverse and broad impact areas of research, such as atomistic modeling of materials and processes, modeling of soft matter and biological systems, digital signal and image processing, computational solid mechanics, climate and socio-economic modeling, and many more.

We are excited to host you on our beautiful campus, which is located at the northern side of the vibrant city of Tel-Aviv, just minutes away from the wonderful Mediterranean beach, the green Yarkon park, and central transportation routes that can take you anywhere across the holy-land.

And once more,

Welcome to Israel!
